Back to Basics

Gone are the days when getting the code done was the first and foremost goal (which is true with majority of IT students). One needs to consider several other aspects in order to remain as software professional. Generally all the IT courses do have a paper on so called 'Software Engineering'. But I don't know the effect of it on an IT student.

One important question I would like to raise is – why do we learn to develop code in a way that should not be practiced as software professionals. Immediately raises the next question – who to hold responsible for that? But my advice to IT students is not to throw NotAProfessionalException. I do understand that it requires some guidance from the practitioners of SE to make the road ahead clear. But being a student, one can always strive to become better or at least a SE practitioner.

First step in your SE life as a student could be to change your mindset. A student can always consider himself as a ‘Software Professional’.
